Description: Volunteers are needed to assist the scientific and legal staff in the review of US Forest Service project proposals. Potential topics of focus include wildlife conservation, rare and endangered species protection, ecological restoration, and forest ecology. Specifically, Forest Watchers will assist in some of the following activities: monitoring and commenting on proposed management activities in Southeastern National Forests; conducting wildlife, aquatic, and botanical surveys; media development; preparing materials for advocacy and authoring reports on a specific projects that Wild South can disseminate to the public. . Estimated project time: 5-10 hours every month, ongoing. Candidate Background: The best candidates for this position will have: a familiarity or interest in natural resources policy and environmental sciences to the degree that he or she can understand land protection issues and recommend criteria for prioritizing resource protection projects; excellent written and oral communication skills; self –motivation; excellent organizational skills.
