Alabama Canyon Mapping Volunteer PDF E-mail

Description:

Wild South is looking for volunteers to assist in our Canyon Survey Program. The goal of this program is to assist the Forest Service in locating and documenting all areas in the William B. Bankhead National Forest that meet the criteria for canyon prescription, in order to preserve and protect these unique ecosystems. If you live close to the Bankhead, are available any weekday, and enjoy exploring remote areas of the forest, you may be able to help.

Candidate Background:

Volunteers should be in good physical condition, able to endure 5 to 7 hours trekking over steep and uneven terrain and often through thick vegetation. We prefer that Mark be accompanied into these remote areas by a volunteer for safety reasons. If you can be available on a regular basis and have GPS experience or would be willing to train in the use of a handheld GPS and the canyon mapping field procedure, we would welcome your active participation as part of our canyon mapping team as well.

Supervisor and Location for the Project:

Volunteers will accompany our Canyon Survey Program Coordinator, Mark Kolinski. Please call Mark at our Alabama field office in Wren at 256-974-6166, ext.5 or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
