| Change is Nothing to Fear |

from Tracy Davids – Executive Director
Over the past year, Americans have become more aware of how fragile things like our economy and the environment really are. We’ve also realized how the seemingly small actions of a few can have large and lasting effects on the many. This same reality is faced year after year on our nation’s public lands. During these uneasy times, it’s important to revisit Wild South’s hopeful vision of the future.
At a time when our nation’s leadership is all but paralyzed, the heart of our democracy lives on in the actions of every day citizens like you. With your generous help, groups like Wild South, although small in size, continue to influence big decisions and make real change happen. In these leanest of times, Wild South and our supporters have never lost sight of the gravity of our responsibilities and how important each of us is in making the world a better place. Staying positive in the face of adversity is never easy. Yet, it’s the only option we have if we want to be effective and remain strong. Each day I have the privilege of knowing that because of people like you, we are making strides towards a brighter tomorrow for our forests, our waters, our wildlife, and our children. The successes we celebrate each year because of you is a testament to what a small group of committed people can accomplish. Unconvinced? Then, imagine for a moment if groups like Wild South did not exist. How would the world be different? Now, imagine a world where the work of Wild South and our supporters continues to grow, our influence spreads, and our collective voices rise. This is no imaginary world my friends – it’s reality! In the year ahead, we will continue to succeed with each of you. We are growing and we are thriving. Like the mighty oak whose roots grow stronger while waiting for its moment to stretch upwards into the canopy, we are reaching towards the sky to secure our place in the foundation of a conservation legacy. As our Associate Director often remarks, “change is the only constant in nature.” This principle extends into everything we do at Wild South. And change is nothing to fear if you recognize that things are changing for the better. Because of you, things certainly have. With 20 years of success behind us, we look toward the future with a renewed sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to protect and restore our natural world by preserving the integrity of what makes this country great. I’m often heard saying “we are doing the best work we’ve ever done,” and I’m pleased to know that your continued support will make this year no exception. Thank you for joining us in protecting forests for life. |
