Mountain Wildlife Days is a hugely successful event that attracts people from across western NC and beyond. Held in beautiful Sapphire, NC, adults and children are able to get up close and personal with native wildlife over the course of a weekend.
The event includes educational field trips, hikes, nature walks, raptor demonstrations, black bear programs, and even a chance to meet timber wolves, a species long extirpated from our region.
Wild South’s Mountain Wildlife Days is an annual event. Please mark you calendars for July 15-16, pack the kids in the car, and join us at the Sapphire Valley Resort Community Center NC for a fun weekend of learning and adventure.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Mountain Wildlife Days Festival last Friday and Saturday - all 700 of you! No matter how old or young you are, seeing wildlife and being out in nature is always a blast. Not only is it fun, but educating ourselves about the wild animals around us is one of the best ways to protect them and be good stewards of our environment.

The 8th annual Mountain Wildlife Days, scheduled for July 15th and 16th at the Sapphire Valley Community Center, is shaping up to be one of the best in the history of this event. This educational and entertaining program for all ages provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with wild things and wild places. (See schedule below)
One of this year’s new presenters is Freeman Owle, who will share insights regarding how Cherokee value wild lives and wild places, not only in the past, but in today's society. He was featured recently in a presentation by PBS involving the history of Appalachia. Freeman will also emphasize the importance of living respectfully with black bears in our changing environment.
Noted and award winning cinematographer, Kate Marshall, has agreed to share her experiences and outstanding award winning DVD's featuring unique filming of black bears. Her video will show close-ups of bears and cubs in their natural habitat while she critically examines some of the modern dilemmas bears face. Kate, a recent presenter at the Black Bear Festival in Umatilla, Florida, will encourage all to become "bear smart", an initiative currently underway sponsored by the Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance (JMCA).
